No Doo Dah Day Party this Sunday

| | Comments (0)

Until my reign, the Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade was typically held on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. When its date was moved, many participants and fans were left all dressed up with no place to go. Well, fret no more, as you can celebrate No Doo Dah Day this Sunday with Snotty Scotty & the Hankies.

A little Doo Dah news...

| | Comments (0)

If you keep up on these things - and you should - you may have noticed that the Light Bringer Project's Web site for its Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade merely states that the event will be held in 2010. There is no date set yet for the parade nor is there any mention of auditions for the Royal Court.

Don't fret, as LBP is working out a few details and will have all the information on the parade that you could want and more soon. I will also be posting information here for you too as it becomes available.

There is a big upside to all of this~ you now have more time to plan your parade entry and, for those of you who are more ambitious, perfect your talent for the big audition.

Keep checking www.pasadenadoodahparade.info and visiting me here for the word on all things Doo Dah.

Dear Readers,

My mom's busy getting ready for the Halloween party at her work, so I took the opportunity to say hello.

cinderelli_waif - aggie.jpgMy friend Aggie sent me some photos of herself as Cinderella. Isn't she precious?!  I just love this time of year~ all the treats... and some of the tricks!

Have a happy and safe Halloween and a wonderful fall!!

Paws up,

Atticus

I know it's early, but I want to make sure you don't miss out on a fun opportunity!

The Gallery at the End of the World will again be sponsoring the Queen of Arts float, also known as the Very Outgoing Queen entry, in the 33rd Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade on Sunday, Jan. 17.

Artist Dave Lovejoy has offered to man the helm for a second time, lending his amazing talents to come up with an extraordinary float design to properly fete outgoing Queen Skittles.

Here's where you come in:

The Gallery at the End of the World is seeking people to help work on the float over several weekends. No art experience is necessary, just a good attitude. Dates to be determined, but definitely in the latter part of December and early January.

People are also invited to be part of the entry on parade day, Jan. 17. You will can wear whatever costume you like and may walk, bicycle, skateboard, rollerskate or travel down the route with us in any non-motorized fashion you desire. Props relating to the entry will be provided for you.

The Gallery is also especially seeking percussionists and other people with a penchant for rhythm~ we want to make some noise as we travel the route! Some instruments will be provided.

For more information and to get on our e-mailing list so you can receive updates on the Queen of Arts float, drop me an e-mail at michelle.mills@sgvn.com  Indicate GATOW float in the subject line.

Now, carry on, as you were,

Dave Lovejoy is one of the most creative artists I know, but then, I'm partial. Dave was the designer and chief artist for the Gallery at the End of the World's float in this year's Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade. The very same float that served as my outgoing Queen entry!  ~ the awesome and amusing castle on wheels.

If that doesn't intrigue you, you may recall that I took a class in Raku pottery earlier this year and created two very cool vessels. Well, he was my teacher. ... Yes, a man of many, many talents....

The weekend of the upcoming ArtNight Pasadena, October 9-11, will be the last opportunity to see Dave Lovejoy's "Bouble Vision" art installation in the courtyard at 88 N. Fair Oaks. Ave, Pasadena.

lovejoy.jpgConsisting of 1000 magnifying glasses suspended by over a mile of galvanized steel wire, the work has been hanging from the arbor in front of Majestical Roof since ArtNight 2008, when it was installed as part of Lovejoy's exhibition, "Circular Logic", made possible in part by a generous grant from the City Of Pasadena Department of Cultural Affairs.

"Bouble Vision" is currently on display 24/7, so you have hardly any excuse not to stop by and see it!

I will be returning to the Los Angeles County Fair this weekend for a command performance.

For several years, I have had the honor of dancing with my veils, swords and other surprises on the Fair's community stage. This year, the show will be extra special, as I will be accompanied by drummer Ric Sarabia.

z b-day dance 12.JPGIf you attend, you may get a weird feeling that somehow Ric looks very familiar... He should, as he's an actor and has appeared in the film, "Changeling," starring Angelina Jolie, and a cluster of television shows, including "Monk," "Fringe," "CSI" and more.

Ric will play his djembe for me and also share some of his own songs, which are quite appealing.

You can catch this unique performance at

12:45-1:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26

Pepper Street Stage

Between buildings 5 and 8 near the Red Gate

www.fairplex.com

Also visit www.almasearabesque.com

After the show, please don't by shy, come up and say hi!

Royal paparazzi

Being a celebrity has its issues and one of them is dealing with the paparazzi, but what if the paparazzi is the celebrity?

32nd Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Queen Skittles is not rude, pushy or unrelenting as the paparazzi, yet she is an avid shutterbug. In fact, she is not just a hobbyist, she is a professional photographer.

Queen Skittles exhibited some of her work at the Gallery at the End of the World's Group Show two weeks ago. During the event, she took time to step out of the spotlight and capture some of the fun. Here's a link to her photos from the four-day event:

Hmmmm.. that belly dancer, the one with the swords, looks very familiar.....

Enjoy!

The Los Angeles County Fair is in full swing and on weekends it adds to the fun with parades and community entertainment. I will be at the Fair twice to participate in these events.

The first time is 4 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 12), when I will be in the American the Beautiful Parade. It's a celebration of diversity and opportunity with groups and bands from all over.

I'll be heading back to perform on the 26th ~ more on that later.

Hope to see you at the Fair!

I am a features staff writer for the San Gabriel Valley Newspaper Group, and after seven auditions resulting in five consecutive years spent as a runner-up, I finally, rightfully, became the Queen of the 31st Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade 2007/2008. I love rock n' roll, motorcycles, swords and sushi. I hate sitting still. Read my blog regularly to bring some excitement into your otherwise dull existence.
